Habits are often the worst enemy of a person because they keep you in a safe spot that prohibits you to grow.
Sometimes your worst enemy is yourself because you see yourself in a different light than everybody else. And for that reason, you keep avoiding certain things in life. The problem with how you picture yourself is that is not like everyone else in your life.
And that is because of habits that keep you from achieving what you want.
For a long time, I was a man with many habits, I was afraid, I was overthinking and I was terrified of failure. For those reasons, I pass through a lot of great opportunities. I didn’t believe that I can do something because my brain kept telling me I’m not good enough.
Lack Of Courage
Fear is a great enemy for everyone who wants to achieve something in life. It puts you down and never lets you get up again. In time you begin to lie to yourself that is better to not do anything and let your fear take the wheel.
But in this case, you’ll never make anything and you’ll never arrive at a point when you are your better self. If you let fear dictates it will ruin your life.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
― Winston S. Churchill
Courage is an essential part of who you are. With courage, you battle fear, and with courage, you’ll be your better self.
You need to be courageous every day and you can start with something small.
Avoidance Of Failure
We are all afraid of failure. I’m afraid of it right now because I write in my second language, for someone I don’t know and who can judge me. But you know what? I don’t care as long I can exceed my fear of failure. If it’s not working with these articles I will just be happy that I manage to do what I always wanted — to write.
Sometimes the failure is keeping us from even started what we want.
“If I’m doing it I will fail”
And? What’s the problem? Many people throughout history failed.
When Edison was asked about his 1.000 times that the light bulb failed he simply replay:
“I didn’t fail 1.000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1.000 steps.”
Yes, maybe you’ll fail, is in the nature of humans to fail. But you really want to fail one time and never look back?
Lack Of Confidence
Your abilities are strongly related to your confidence level. Yes, is good to question your abilities and have your feet on the ground. But if you overthink something and question yourself every step you’ll just end up on Netflix all day long and not doing what you want to do.
“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.”
― J. M. Barrie
To achieve something, you need to have a little faith in yourself.
Unfortunately, your confidence levels are not a mathematical equation and you can’t find pills to grow your confidence. I know it sounds cheesy but your confidence comes from inside.
Don’t get me wrong, a measure of self-doubt is recommended, and it will help you. But if you don’t work towards your goals and lack confidence in yourself you’ll never achieve anything.
Sometimes, the worst enemy is our mind. We often don’t realize that before it’s too late and fears have taken over.
But with small steps, you can change your life for the better.
